Bay Area Jazz vocalist Gail Dobson began her extraordinary career at just 19 gigging with her first husband, pianist George Muribus, in the storied San Francisco jazz venues of the 1960’s. They were often joined by fellow Bay Area jazz legends like Vince Lateano, Noel Jewkes, and Al Molina.

In the late 70’s she and her second husband, pianist Smith Dobson IV, moved to Santa Cruz. They began a long association with the Kuumbwa Jazz Center and The Garden City in San Jose, where they recorded the album “Live at Garden City” with Pete and Conte Condoli.

Gail also had a long, flourishing solo career, releasing several albums reflective of her creative fire, with diverse artists such as Ben Goldberg, John Shifflett, Masaru Koga, and Tim Volpicella.

For several decades she was a dedicated vocal instructor who helped nurture and inspire generations of young performers.

Two of her four children, Smith V and Sasha, followed the Jazz family tradition. They will be performing with Smith’s quartet and sharing the stage with many special guests, as well as family and friends sharing their thoughts and feelings about Gail.
