Award-winning jazz/blues recording artist Roberta Donnay’s interest in roots music started at a young age.Studying jazz and blues, she started performing with her guitar and composing music, then moved to San Francisco and sang with Dick Oxtot’s Golden Age Jazz Band and “Tom Keats and his Tom Kats” and the Jimmy Price Big Band.
This led her to record with legendary jazz producer Orrin Keepnews, and touring 10+ years as a member of “Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks”
Her group Prohibition Mob, formed in 2011, signed with Motema Music (“A Little Sugar” 2012 and “Bathtub Gin” 2015 and with Blujazz (“My Heart Belongs to Satchmo”) 2018. They have performed at venues and festivals including Birdland NYC, Exit Zero Jazz Fest, San Jose Jazz, Jacksonville Jazz, Berkshires Jazz Fest, as guest artist at Monterey Jazz and Montreux Jazz Fest, and more!
The band features Grammy-winning trombonist Mike Rinta, John R.Burr on piano, Scott Jensen on trumpet, Mark Williams on bass, Mark Lee on drums.
As a performer, Ms. Donnay has recorded with, opened for, or performed with Dr. John, Joey Alexander, Bob Dorough, Christian McBride, Joe Sample, Dan Hicks, Booker T. and more.
Donnay started composing jazz and pop music and was signed to a publishing deal in 1999. Donnay’s songs and voice are featured in current films and TV shows.
Donnay wrote the song “One World” which became a theme for the UN50 and is performed worldwide for world peace events.
