Join Eamonn Flynn and Dublinesque for a special show to celebrate Bealtaine at 7pm on May 1st at Keys Jazz Bistro in San Francisco.
Bealtaine is an ancient Irish festival celebrated on May 1st, marking the beginning of summer, growth, and fertility. Traditionally, it involves lighting bonfires, driving cattle between fires for protection, decorating with yellow flowers, and rituals for prosperity. It is a celebration of light, marking the halfway point between the spring equinox and summer solstice.
The most famous song associated with Bealtaine is called in Gaelic: ‘Thugamar Féin an Samhradh Linn’ (we have brought the Summer with us) and dates from as far back as the 12th century. Hear Eamonn Flynn play an instrumental version of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29NIqzMLK1c
Dublinesque features:
Eamonn Flynn: Vocals and piano. From Dublin, Ireland Flynn played on the soundtrack of the hit film The Commitments and has performed with artists like Elvin Bishop, Michael Franti, Zigaboo Modeliste and Maria Muldaur and is currently organist/ pianist at Glide Memorial Church.
Darcy Noonan: Fiddle and vocals. A key figure in the Bay Area traditional music scene with an exciting and expressive style of her own.
Felim Egan: Accordion, bodhran and vocals. From Offaly, Ireland. A master button accordion player.
Hector Bragado: Banjo. Hailing from the Basque Country, Hector names Barney McKenna from The Dubliners as a key influence on his sound and he roots Dublinesque in that sonic tradition.
While rooted in Irish traditional music—featuring sets of reels, jigs, and Irish folk songs—Dublinesque also incorporates Flynn’s deep background in gospel and R&B and his original songs. The show is designed to recreate the atmosphere of a lively Dublin house party where “music, stories, and laughter flow freely”.
Performances often feature special guests. Previous guests have included the GLIDE Memorial Choir, Maria Muldaur and members of the Black Family, as well as Irish dancers.
Tickets: $40 per show
