Two acclaimed Bay Area acoustic musicians join forces for an eclectic and highly original evening exploring jazz and folk traditions from around the world. Two-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Mads Tolling and Latin Grammy-nominated accordionist and composer Sam Reider bring together their distinctive musical voices in a genre-busting collaboration that moves effortlessly across cultures and styles.
The program features Danish folk songs, Argentine tango, Venezuelan waltzes, the music of Django Reinhardt, and American jazz and roots music from closer to home. With virtuosity, spontaneity, and a shared spirit of musical adventure, Tolling and Reider create an intimate concert that celebrates tradition, improvisation, and the joy of musical discovery.
MADS TOLLING is a violinist and composer from Copenhagen, now based in the San Francisco Bay Area. A former member of Stanley Clarke’s band and Turtle Island Quartet, Mads has performed with Bob Weir & Wolf Bros, Chick Corea, Ramsey Lewis, Paquito D’Rivera, and Leo Kottke, and leads his own ensembles internationally.
SAM REIDER is an accordionist, pianist, and composer from San Francisco whose genre-bending music spans jazz, folk, and chamber music. He has performed internationally and collaborated with artists including Jon Batiste, Jorge Glem, Sierra Hull, Laurie Lewis, and Paquito D’Rivera, with his music and performances featured on NPR, PBS, and the BBC.
